ENd of day

I had a Vietnamese sandwich but it wasn't that good: bread was dry (was evening after all), filling contained a stringy thing that I couldn't tell if it was animal or plant. Also got taro milk tea which I forgot is an acquired taste, so down the drain it went.

I had a good massage. I enjoy talking to masseuses about my travels. Jocelyn, was her name, has been to Thailand and Vietnam the last few years. Then what's really weird, and shows how small Richmond is (which I like), I saw from my car window the Kristin recruiter who I talked to yesterday and today; she was crossing the street!

This is so sweet: I wrote my all-time fave teacher that I was looking for a job, and he wrote, "People would be crazy to not want you working for them."

Tuesday, day off

I've had seafood 2 days in a row: yesterday, fried clam strips (I know, unhealthy) and today, scallops (my fave) and shrimp with pasta (grocery store-prepared).

It's kinda funny my former acupuncturist, about 10 yrs older than me, comments on my wall posts, even replying to my French friend's (who I met in China) comment in French. I just re: to the friend, ignoring acupuncturist. Talk about connecting people who are otherwise strangers!

Visited my Russian lady today (senior citizen). She actually wanted homework! I brought a little story book of easy Russian and read aloud. She thought it would be good for her to translate it. I didn't even have that in mind, just wanted to practice my Russian. So after I read the short first section (and was enough! gosh, how 3+ yrs can make a difference), she asked if she could keep it til next time. It's kinda nice I don't have to prepare anything for a change. I've got enough to do!

I have a massage today :). Not going to salsa b/c I don't to see that guy for a while. Whaddaya know, the temp agency I spoke to today proposed an Admin position at the power company where he works, lol.

I had a funny dream last night that I told my dad. I think waking naturally, without alarm clock, really makes a difference in remembering dreams. I dreampt I was in France on a Sunday evening and needed to buy a headscarf b/c I was going to Iran or Irak. Of course, on Sundays, and especially, the evening, many stores in France are closed. I wandered into a lit-up place where a bunch of high school American girls were sitting cross legged on the floor, almost like Girl Scouts or a church group. There I met a Kristin from high school, who I did run into last December but otherwise hadn't seen since graduation. Strange how ppl from my past can randomly show up in dreams. The idea I was going to Iran/Iraq and needed to cover in a headscarf is funny.

Book Exchange

First, I want to write that at Trader Joe supermarket yesterday my total came to $8.88. The cashier remarked on this, that it's a lucky # in China. I said, "Yes, I lived there 2 years ago." He said his mom was born there, his grandma in Hong Kong, and his great grandmother in Macau. If he hadn't said, I wouldn't have thought him to look half-Chinese but then I could see it. While there, the song "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" played :). Reminded me of my very brief sejour in San Fran last fall. Thought it fitting, playing in a Cali-based supermarket.

After lunch, I decided to read another French short story and take a nap. I was falling asleep with the light on, so figured a nap wouldn't hurt. Woke up an hour later feeling yuck. Like, not well rested, dehydrated, kinda sick. Don't you hate when you feel you deserve a nap then it makes you feel worse? I held the ladder while my dad cleaned out our gutters. Then I left for a meetup book exhange (my first time). It was a group of introverted ladies but conversation flowed more after we described our books. I felt slightly like a cop-out b/c in my mad dash to bring a novel there, I chose a book I hadn't read, at least I don't think so. It's Frances Mayes' (R-MWC grad!) "A year in the world." It's about her travels in Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Greece, Turkey. I was relieved someone "took" it to read b/c it wasn't a great sell, ha. I was somewhat glad to hear the woman next to me is also living at home (she's older) and also experienced a downsizing at a job she hated. She knows now what field to pursue. I was going to pick a book about a fantasy world accessed thru a London tube portal (quite similar to the British movie I watched this morning where the main character leaves Jane Austen's time to arrive back in London via a porta-potty!).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwhere Another woman beat me to it but that' ok. I picked Barbara Santana' "Between the Stars" about a young biracial woman in San Fran in the 60's (going back to beg. of post!). I really think parallels in life happen for a reason.

Refreshing countryside visit

Regarding last entry, I cancelled on him, which is just as well. I felt a little flakey doing that but it's better than going thru with something I didn't want to do after all.

I had a nice visit with my friend at her parents' house in the country yesterday. We slept in a tent outside.

My sis is playing her annoying loud music.

How weird is this? I wrote a bunch of class secretaries from R-M (looking thru Bulletin), and the one who has replied so far wrote in the first sentences, "I wish I could be of more help but I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor that has disabled my left eye!" How sad.

Want a nap. The weather can't make up its mind. It looks like it will storm then becomes sunny.

Wasn't expecting to also get motivational speech from zumba class today but I rather liked it. She said on the count of 3, we were to say, "I'm awesome!" Uno, dos, tres.. "I'm awesome!" We're also fabulous :).

Well well well, who's that calling?

(Peter, Paul, and Mary song)

hehehe, I just rcvd confirmation that that guy is too immature for me. I wrote him I may go to Myrtle Beach, and he re: 'U suck!" I don't need a 25 yr-old guy I'm attracted to to tell me that! It's quite funny, really. I had suggested we go to a park tomorrow since I was busy when he asked. Unless he really surprises me, that may be the only time we meet up. Now a friend wants to go to salsa but I want to stop going to avoid him for a little!

Hot Thursday, day off

A few weeks ago, I wrote down in a dept store an old man saying about "She Drives Me Crazy" song playing, "There's that dumb song again." I thought this was funny b/c it was my favorite when I was 5.

Cockatiel and French present

After getting back from my dentist apt (no cavities -YAY!- but close), I saw Annie's package to me from Paris. Inside was a paperback book of short stories (I love short stories!), delicate gold crystal earrings, and.. a Winnie the Pooh and Piglet French bday card! It's kinda funny getting such card for a belated 25th but at the same time, I think we shouldn't forget the kid in us :). For example, I bought Teddy Grahams last week. I still like the little Juicy Juice juice boxes. Food in small sizes is fun (and can be less calorific).

The last 2 days, I wasn't sure when my mom would come home with the cockatiel. I wanted to be home when Kelly saw it for the first time. This happened last night after 11pm when she was home from work. She walked in and didn't see the green blanket covering a cage on a table at first. I caught it on video :). Joey will take a while to warm up to us. It's weird having a bird with feathers on its head that stick up. Mom put him on my shoulder last night, and it's also strange having a taller bird closer to eye level.

Today I'm going to shadow a company, something I haven't done in months. The transition started yesterday.. the first coworker had her last day in our dept because she's switching to another. That should signal to me to get out of there soon! I don't want to be there at the end when we're really short-staffed, especially since I've wanted out of there for so long. But at the same time, I'm looking for a better job not within the company; it's easier for my coworkers who don't have as high standards and are fine staying with that company.

pool

hahaha, I just logged onto the dating site b/c someone wrote me and it was suggested I may like my best friend's brother! I recognized his photo. And if he checks it, he'll see me as having viewed!

Happy 4th

I'm unpatriotic without realizing it: I bought some Molson Canadian beer to bring to a July 4th party today! I thought I'd bring it to the party hosted by English but they have everything covered. I can go to 3 parties if I want. A few days ago, I didn't know what my plans were for the holiday, kind-of hoping it wouldn't just be with the fam.

After I got back from my interview the other day, my mom told me (from the news) that the job market is still rough, somewhat plateau'd. Ay.
