I was going to post that song by Mamas and Papas on Fbook but then thought, "That doesn't even apply to me." (Given I worked the last 4 days)
Went for (a) drink 2 nights in a row. Sat night with someone who works upstairs, Liz. I clocked out right at 12:00 (good for me, considering I had left 1am and 12:30am the nights before) but Liz was on a call. We left the building about 12:30 but my coworkers reminded me, it would have taken that much time to get downtown. I had a hibiscus French-Canadian beer meaning "God of the sky." Not bad. More expensive than I usually pay but Capital Ale house has such an extensive beer selection, and I don't go out much, I wanted to treat myself.
Last night it was my 2 coworkers and me at Bamboo (versus the usual Avalon where they tend to start with champagne). I limited myself to one Purple Haze (raspberry beer) because I had eaten lightly that night and needed to drive 20+min back. My coworker gave me directions how to get back to my friend's house but I forgot L or R at one part so turned on the GPS (which I had just put in the car yday). It told me different directions (ie, take toll hwy). It was a 25cent toll, and there was red light, but I didn't see the coin collection box. Hopefully I won't get a notice/ fine later stating, "you skipped the 25c toll;" that would suck. When I got back, I knew I wanted mozarella sticks (that I had had the night before) because I was a little hungry, and we had talked of and seen pizza at the bar. To my annoyance, the cats had peed on the carpet again! ugh. Separation anxiety, I guess.
I went home yday and had lunch with the fam. I needed to check college documents to send to a recruiter. She called this morning to say the company desires someone with more experience. darn!
So today (relatively soon), I need to go home to finish my taxes.
I spoke Chinese in my dream Sat night. Don't remember the situation but I simply asked if a guy was Korean or Chinese. I was told something I didn't understand and assumed it meant he was Cantonese. ha.
I'm not sure my blog will be full of life lessons, and I don't write often, but it's a decent title for someone in transition figuring things out. A 20-something adventure :)

St Pat's!
Sunny day. I treated myself to a pepperoni pan pizza (gave Mom the last slice); I was ravenous!
Taxes are so not getting done today (aka, before I housesit for 1.5 weeks). Maybe I'll come home next Monday when my dad's home so he can look it over before I submit.

Tuesday was good
Why did Tuesday bring a better feeling? I got a wake-up call from a recruiter who had received my resume and asked me to come in today, that she might have something. My dad said, "They say that, to get you to come in." But she actually did have a company in mind, for my French skills. She'll contact them tomor, so it's not definite of course they have an opening, but I'm to send some English and French writing samples (from college).
Also, it was beautiful weather today.
The VCU summer/fall schedule came out yday. I wrote my boss tonight at work with dates, days of week and times of courses I'd like to take this summer. I realized they are intensive sessions and broken into halves, which reinforces that I should just be moved to day shift.

NoVA
I'm once again in Northern Virginia and am reminded how I have little desire to live/work up here. The traffic alone is enough to deter me. I didn't go to the job fair yesterday because it was closed after 11am (3 hrs open) due to max capacity! So I stopped in Stafford (confusing it with Surrey, famous for their peanuts) and found nothing. Then Prince William Nat'l Forest.. hiked, which was good! Then drove around a lot which wasn't cool. Ok, 3 trips to NoVA, all involving get lost.. I AM getting a GPS when I get back.
I don't know my plans tonight, it's my night off. Oh, there's salsa downtown but I don't want to see (or dance with) the guy who asked me to dinner.
My dad prepped me yday on what to tell recruiters about myself, although looking at the companies that will be present at today's fair, they don't have many international ties, it seems.
It's good to be up early (and go to bed earlier), which was only possible because I didn't work last night and was in a different house than my own. I'm so glad I chose to sleep downstairs because my friend's little girl woke up after 3am and cried for an hour apparently. I didn't hear it at all, slept very soundly :). I got to hold Caitlin (that's her name) before they left. I was amazed at my friend's ability to juggle work and a child 4 months ago, and I still am!

Moving on
My married best friend sent me an article from a local paper about the "quarter-life crisis." It's written by a woman who lived downtown, had a relationship, kind-of fell apart after it, and has gone to live with her parents again in her mid-20's. She sends the message that due to the economy, more and more young folks are moving back home temporarily. Last week I was surprised when a 31-yr old guy acted like it was cool I'm still living at home, that it's smart. I was happy to hear this from someone I liked. But then after realizing the guy I pursued wasn't a good match, my hope went away, and I felt "bad" again for still being stuck in this boring job and undesirable shift and living at home (even though the pursued guy is 4 yrs older and still living with his rents!).
Anyway, I was happy yesterday to get an email from a Chinese friend who travelled with me and 2 others on my birthday 2 years ago. I'm flattered he asked for my email from our mutual friend because he can't write on Facebook. He or someone chose his English name to be "Zephyr!" It was really good to hear from him.

Oh, dash it all
I want to vege and watch movie upon movie.. if I had my own place. An alumna who I visited for lunch yesterday asked me to watch her place for almost 2 weeks. She lives about 20 minutes from me, so would be a longer commute. Her one cat is nice enough, Chocolate Mousse, but boy, did I wear the wrong combination of clothes: brown corduoroy pants and a dark purple shirt. I had to "roll" myself before leaving. After leaving I thought, "I don't want to housesit farther from things/people for that long, will be lonely." And yes, it may well be, but it also may be good for me, to have my own space. Training for moving out, which I hope to do in the next few months.
I thought my neighbor was going to call me today. I asked him if he could tell me about Passover, especially in Russian, since he is Jewish and speaks the language.
The title refers to my date. It's bittersweet: I realized we probably aren't compatible (we have the same birthday, after all!) but I'm glad that I know this now rather than later. I do regret a bit the time "wasted" thinking about him (because I was just so smitten when we met, and things took forever to materialize, so there was a lot of anticipation on my end). I hope he grows up soon (not for me, but just in general). It's strange: I know I can be insecure around the opposite sex, but it's weird to see an (older) guy be the same way. When we parted, he offered a hug like usual and said maybe we'd see each other soon. I was going to say, "Yes, if you invite me to do something." (In all fairness, he did invite me our last meal together but it was something we had discussed when we met, so I figured it was a given.)
I came home and announced the "news flash" to my mom and sis (and later my dad); how annoying it is to tell things singly! Ate half a box of dark chocolate-covered raisins that I bought the other day in anticipation of the French film festival at the end of the month. I got my pass in the mail today, despite not having sent "proof" of my student status yet. I am set! Contemporary French novel by my bedside and pass for a weekend full of French film-viewing. LSAT guy asked what I read, and I said I currently have different language books by my bed, including a 17th(?) century one about a younger man and an older woman and back and forth and how I think "Just do it!" ha. The guy is actually pretty smart.. I felt less smart around him. He reads foreign policy and techie mags and can enjoy eating alone. Sure, I can eat a meal alone but not make a habit out of it. I think he's a loner, which is something I don't understand. I guess a "warning" could have been there when we met, that he said he has wanderlust and likes to move. And tonight, he's thinking of teaching English in Cambodia. Well, that's great, but he's approaching 30.. I don't know, I just felt some of the English teachers I met in China were losers, like they couldn't quite get by in North American society. I probably sound judgemental. Ugh, I feel yucky and don't want to go out but it's a coworker's bday, and I bought her a funny card and won't see her tomor.

Comings and goings
Not sure what my title signifies.
Ugh, why am I telling so many people I have a date today? Because I feel the need to verbalize my emotions, of course. I had to ask him out because he's shy. I guess something can be said, that I know what I want and look how to make it happen. They teach us to be proactive at my work, ha!
Seriously need an exercise class.
