Gearing for interviews, if I can just start networking,..

I bought a suit today! Stylish, gray one for $80.00 at Macy's. The saleswoman, who I've seen working there before, said at the end "Here you go, little one." Also bought a peachy pink shirt with satin bow in the back for $10 at NY & Co.
Yesterday before work I went to the employment center that used to be a public library.. a little nostalgic. I remember the guinea pig they had in a cage in the kids' section. I didn't make an appointment since I figure that's more for people who have lost their job, but picked up a bunch of free booklets on different subjets, like "Making contacts" and "Informational interviews." I need to start doing some of the latter. I basically only did 1 with a R-MWC alumna last year before being offered my current job.
Thought of going to rotary club mtg yday but my friend invited me to lunch at Super King Buffet (pan-Asian food). I said goodbye to Albane, her french ex. student. They have those mtgs weekly, so I'll try to go next wk.
RSVP'd to a women's ntwking lunch. It's in between 2 counseling sessions (which are on same street, so I'll be back and forth). The 2nd counselor is free of charge with work, and hope she can provide work-related advice. I plan to take advantage of any "free" service the company gives before I leave or am given the boot.
Felt a little unmotivated after finishing my course. I have my free time back, but the task of starting networking is daunting. It can be fun, just have to be in the right mindset.

Last day of class tomor and I'm procrastinating..

I actually went to a club in my hometown last night, which I think is a first. Most of my friends here aren't into that. And maybe I'm not so into it, either. Guess it depends who you're with.. unless I have a close group of female friends, goofy guy friends, or a bf, it probably won't be as fun. I said I wouldn't drink much since I was DD and needed to finish coursework (and would be nice to do pilates) today. But I woke up and was tired and needed to sleep it off. I only had a cranberry vodka and a Heineken. Was fine to drive home. My friend from high school got tired really fast b/c she didn't sleep well the night before.
Today I did "Body step" class. I haven't done a step class in a while because of my schedule, but I remember why now I don't like it: it's hard, and I'm not terribly coordinated jumping off and on the step. In the gym steam room, a woman who is a friend of my best friend's parents recognized me, since I was the maid of honor.
Met Cindy (from R-M) for dinner at my new favorite Thai restaurant. We both got curry noodle, mine with scallops. Once again, I think I talked too much! Guess that's what happens when you severely limit my social life like it's been this last year: either I have little to say because I don't see people on a regular basis, or I talk about everything.
My friend's intended flight to Cali went up $25. I wanted to buy our tix before now; can't believe I didn't realize sooner SFO is bigger and therefore, a cheaper airport to fly into than San Jose! That changes my (loose) itinerary, b/c I thought we'd start at our friend's; with this, we'll start in San Francisco, do the sights there, take a winery shuttle in Napa Valley Halloween day (weird?), and drive back to Santa Clara, Maria's place, and visit Monterey Bay area. Hopefully the tickets will be sealed this week.

Feeling upbeat despite some things

It sounds bad, but when my coworkers are fired, once I get over the initial anxiety that I may be next and slight sadness they are gone, I'm somewhat relieved, because it means my job is a little safer (for now). Actually, yday's firings are a sign the whole dept (which isn't very big) is on its way down the tubes. I heard about them by text today thru my former co-worker (also fired) who used to sit next to me. It was one of those times I'm glad I didn't have my cell phone on me. Had I brought it to comm college (rather, left in the car), I would have seen her text after class and felt anxious on the way home instead of being able to enjoy the little shopping trip I did. I couldn't believe that the senior employee and another woman, who is a very good customer service rep, would be fired. The other night after I made a mistake and confided in one of the 3 male coworkers about my job security, he said they won't fire me b/c I speak French, and even though they don't seem like they care about the Canadian program, they do.
Stopped at employment agency where I stopped 3 weeks ago. I talked to a different woman and said I'd send a different version of resume. Rather annoying when I mention my employer, they try to weedle info out of me for their benefit, to see if they can work with them. Anyway, didn't get email back. I'd better! I may go to a Rotary club meeting next week since they meet at the delicious Italian resto near my house where my bday dinner was. I think it may be middle-aged people and up, but if I can network, that's the point.
It's half-price cheesecake day at Cheesecake Factory! (Where I had lunch, no dessert a week ago). The caesar salad and personal pizza with mini pepperoni's combo Marsha had seem good. My Lousiana chicken wasn't bad. If I go for c cake tomor, I may want the new Red Velvet, or Chocolate Tuxedo. mY god, you'd think I was PMSing. I came home and googled different restaurants in the area. Some places I'd like to go: Olive Gardnen, Outback Steakhouse, Rd Lobster, Longhorn Steak house, Brio, Anokhra Indian and new Tapas place near me. And I just ate Hot and Spicy Cheez it's and 100 Grand. Exercise needed tomorrow! Oh, I'm getting a deep-tissue massage :).

Power Point

It's my task to put together the group PowerPoint for tomorrow's biz class presentation-- took longer than I thought. I'm not as familiar with MS Office 2007, and got frustrated this morning changing one gp member's slides to coordinate with the "prettified" slides I did last night on my laptop with Office 2003. I didn't spend much time on the latter, which was chucked and a "theme" adopted instead.
Burger Night last night was better. I am, however, proud of myself for leaving earlier than the rest of the group. I feel strange doing that, that it seems snotty or something, but it was already 11:30pm, and I knew I need time to work on PPoint.
I took a sick day today because I didn't feel well starting last night-- lethargic, slight head and stomach aches. Leaves me more time to finish, prepare, and be rested for tomorrow's presentation. Ironic I take a sick day while working on a "healthcare reform" project!

Little sleep

Man, this horoscope is the most frank one I've come across, at least mine, for today.

Friday "Blueberry blitz"

Second time getting that shake at the gym. I got a card where if I buy 9, get one free. And it was punched twice.. sweet. But they're kind-of expensive, and I know I could make them myself if I took the time and effort.
Today is a friend's bday. We made plans to have lunch Sunday. I need to work on my paper, but know I need to make time to be social.
Got a cold sore on my lip.. hate that. Shows how stressed I've been.

l'été s'en va

(The summer is going by)
Hopefully, in the future I can look back on the summer I was 24, that wasn't really a summer because I work evenings, and think "Yes, it was an unhappy time, but it got better."
Really sucky 2/4 group members aren't pulling their weight; we present in a week.
Was lethargic today (maybe avoidance of my paper) but must be productive.
