Sunny Friday

2 Fridays off in a row! I hope to go dancing tonight because I didn't really get to last Saturday, not a good dancing space. Next Sat I have an 80's bday party that was originally supposed to be last month but was postponed due to weather. Now fewer people will be able to come.

Yday I emailed LSAT guy, even though I didn't want to have to "set up" next date; however, with my schedule, one has to plan ahead to take advantage. Then I somewhat regretted my forwardness. He replied he takes practice LSAT my night off then dishwashing at a restaurant that night. I knew he worked in a resto but not dishwashing. He's a smart guy, just humble occupations for now until law school! He's free next Sat (when I have the party). It will be an early party, little to no alcohol, so I wrote I may be back in Richmond by 10pm, we'll see. Now I'm remembering my pessimistic attitude about dating; the logistics of meeting up can be so tedious! But, of course, if it's the right person, it can be worth the effort.

Whoah, I am so glad I keep my mouth shut sometimes! I think I knew this before but was reminded, if a woman breaks up with a guy, don't say something like, "I didn't really like him anyway," because she may well regret that decision, still love him, and be distraught that he won't reply to her msgs of "I'm sorry, I made a mistake." This happened to my coworker the last 2 nights. So I think it was good timing for me to have planned a "meat malbec" marathon. I bought both the boxed wine and cuts of steak. Buying meat is so intimidating! (For a former vegetarian who still doesn't cook it) If I dated this guy, would be nice if he cooked and/or showed me how!

Lunch

Wow, some people really don't change, do they? I decided to write someone who I've pretty much stopped communicating with, and as usual, when asked how I am, I write a paragraph and get no reply. Hate that. I thought of writing in French, which this person understands, "Now I remember why I stopped talking to you." There's no point in talking or typing a lot if the person doesn't care enough to reply. Waste of effort.

So I asked my coworker last night about guy I'm seeing today. Am glad I did because she told me a bit of his history, which explains somewhat his behavior.

I learned a lesson last night at work in discretion. Oh, it sucks.

Going to meet my Cuban Spanish tutor tomor! He's a VCU student. Need to brush up on the Spanish I learned last summer. I told myself I would do that but never did-- just dislike reading in general as of late, such a solitary thing.

It's Mardi Gras! Laissez les bons temps rouler..

mid-Feb

My gosh, I had a 3-day weekend and did almost nothing for job search. What did I do? Social lunch, a little shopping, brownie making and dropping off, watching Olympics. Yday, was kinda glum. Finished watching the British comedy series, dropped my sis off at work, ran very briefly, jumped on trampoline, watched part of "The Science of Sleep" and "Down with Love." Picked up sis and went out for a friend's bday. I saw his friends who I hadn't seen in a LONG time. There's an elderly gay guy I enjoy talking to, like a father figure. Bday guy told me to mingle, so I joined a group of mainly guys.

There was an attractive Asian guy but didn't talk to him much b/c I wasn't sure if he was with a woman there. I had my one limit gin and soda and joked he should buy me a drink, which, surprisingly, he did. I told the guys I was talking to (and it was noticeable) that I unfortunately become quiet after drinking. So whatever "bubbliness" I had at the beginning went away when the alcohol set in. The cran vodka given to me (with happy V day wish) was the last thing I needed, so I took a few sips, put it down, a few more, down again. He saw I was hardly drinking it and took it to finish himself, which I'm glad of. When I got home, I thought, "I didn't thank him for the drink" (and I hate being rude, when my mom really did teach me manners), so I waited until the morning to write him on Fbook. He just wrote back, "You're welcome!" and friend requested me. Then, what do I see? He was 1,400 friends! Lordy. He has a good 6+ years on me and a lot more socialization in his time, but lordy! Must say, a turn-off.

Think tomor I'm going to wear a new short-sleeve sweater and blazer tomor to eff with management a little, make them think I'm interviewing. My dad said it's a tactic he's pulled in his career. Just don't know what pants to wear with since it's not a set..

LSAT guy wrote me at gmail, as I requested (don't want to log onto Fbook so much). He made an immature comment about the noodle place we'll go to. Def not as excited about this "date" as I would have been 3 weeks ago. Maybe he's not dating material.. maybe I should just be friendly, although that's hard when you're really attracted to the person.

Olympics!

So exciting! I'm glad it's in Canada. Sometimes I find the cultural/nostalgic stories in the Olympics annoying but enjoy learning about Canada. I didn't know there is an Alert, Nunavit, just 500 miles from the northpole. It's the northernmost populated place in the world.. 5 people!

Today I went to Mekong with Scottie, a RM alumna 15 years older. I'm glad I connected to her on LinkedIn; we get along fairly well. She said her sibling is also about 7 years younger than her. We've only had lunch 2x but she asked if I might want to housesit when she goes to the beach next month. She has 2 cats who who are brats but her babies, including a half-Siamese named 'Chocolate mousse."

After lunch, I went to Kohl's to buy the lipstick a coworker told me is long-lasting. $12 is a little expensive, I think, but if it lasts... The store employee gave me samples of products since I wasn't familiar with them. She said they're made by Estee Lauder (and a lot cheaper!). I also bought a sky blue bead necklace (nice with my eyes) and a "ruby" diamond-shaped earring and necklace set. I thought, "No one's buying me jewelry for Valentine's, may as well look good and buy some for myself." I must admit, the lipstick purchase is partly in anticipation of a date.. and by golly, am I impatient. I need some communication here. I wrote 2 msgs this week to guy on Fbook, agreeing to get Vietnamese pho soup, and wanted to write today, "Can you just call or text me when you're done with the LSAT?" I talked to a friend 2 days ago about the situation, and she said men have gotten so lazy with communication. Facebook, texting. Technology is distancing..

I didn't want to seem overeager to meet him but said truthfully that my schedule this weekend and next week are flexible. I probably won't hear from him til after Valentine's. Ugh, why am I so hung up on it? I guess because I was instantly attracted to him, liked his personality, and how cool is it we share our bday. But I also feel a bit neglected that more hasn't happened. Guess I expect too much and don't have enough going on in my life. I told myself I need a new job (or shift, but preferably new job) by the time I hit 80,000 miles on my car. (at 78,300 now) I also wanted to move out by 25 but there isn't really reason until I get a more satisfactory position.

Wintry mix ahead?

Calling for more inclement weather tomorrow. I wouldn't mind if I were paid to stay at the Hyatt again and get double wage.

The elation over my ample future paycheck due to this snow weekend was brought down today when I sat down and looked at the tasks I had to do (few and so menial). It's been this way for a while. I know a coworker didn't get the job she wanted in DC. She told me she's been applying to a lot of places.

Aim to do my taxes tomorrow or at least this week.

Reminded coworker that I'm off Wed, so she may arrange meet-up with LSAT guy. I'm almost apathetic about it now, though. Yes, he was studying for this all-important exam but why no contact when he supposedly liked me?

Fuck this job. Seriously.

2/8/10

Time goes by too quickly

My schedule, rotating 1 day off each week, doesn't help. When I realize, for ex, I last did this 5 months ago, etc, I'm dismayed how time flies. But maybe I'm too hung up on it. I just know that while I've been going to work, I haven't been terribly happy nor done much to get a new job. I know I've written that a lot. Want to get out of this rut.

2/3/10

3 more days

I'm being silly still, but subject reflects how long I have to "wait" for person I'm interested in to take LSAT and be "free." Actually, make it 4. I wouldn't ctc him the day after; seems desperate.

I friended him on Facebook after my best friend coaxed me. I thought maybe he wouldn't see the msg for a while, but he did and noticed we have the same bday: "You, me, and Red Baron." I thought the pizza but googling it, realized the actual Red Baron does share our bday. I knew David Beckham and the Rock share it and replied with that. He re: "Good company." (for real!) Meanwhile, I gave a coworker my phone # after talking to a friend/coworker, S, deciding, "What's the harm, if just friendly?" But then I'm asked out to dinner and a movie, and I don't want that. I agreed to dinner after 8pm Thurs; I had paid $15 for a monthly young professionals networking meet-up that's 6-8. I told him I didn't want to see a movie. Why did I listen to S?! She agrees it's gonna be awkward. My plan is to be casual and split the bill; he'll get the point. He's a really nice guy but I'm not attracted to him; I think our personalities are somewhat similar, and I kinda want someone different (but still interesting and nice, of course).

I'm quite prolific with this blogging lately. Yesterday thought, "I just may come into my own" (or whatever) this spring. This because I met a very interesting guy (that I'd like to think will develop but maybe not) and may possibly work day (NORMAL) shift. The latter's, of course, more important. The guy works shift similar to mine but then, he'll go off to law school somewhere in VA. And here's something that annoys me: I think I'm learning not to tell women friends who are more established in relationships, ie marriage, about my romantic developments. Because I think they want to live through their friends somewhat and expect things to go faster, tend to "think ahead" when those things may never happen. Like my friend said maybe I could move with him where he goes to school. Whoah, whoah. I haven't even had a date with him. (But I know I'm making a big fuss)

Ok, enough of that. I basically wanted to write it's annoying taking care of drunk people. I had to argue slightly with one tonight (it was her bday, too) because she was convinced she should meet up with people at another bar/dance space. But truth is, there wouldn't be many ppl on a Tues nite. I circled her place twice, then parking in a reserved spot briefly. She had lost her key, so we had to go around front and ring doorbell repeatedly for a roommate to let her in. Whew.
